Center for Practical AI
Our Story

Building AI Literacy For Everyone

We're a 501(c)3 nonprofit founded in Durham, NC with one mission: equip every person, regardless of technical background, with the knowledge and skills to critically engage with AI.

Our Mission

Equipping people with the literacy and fluency to critically engage with AI.

AI is already reshaping how we work, govern, learn, and connect. But access to AI education has been uneven, concentrated in elite universities and big tech companies, leaving most professionals and communities behind.

CPAI was built to change that. We believe AI literacy is a civic necessity, not a technical luxury. Our programs are designed for real people with real jobs, not just software engineers.

Our Vision

A world where everyone can engage with AI, critically and confidently.

We envision a world where AI fluency is as common as digital literacy. A nurse, a policy staffer, and a small business owner would all have the tools to evaluate, use, and shape AI in their work and communities.

That future requires sustained investment in education, community, and advocacy. It's the work we show up for every day.
